Review: Red Hood and the Outlaws #7

Red Hood, the disgraced son in the Batman Family, now has his own team and a fresh start. But, is his team (consisting of a dumb Superman in Bizarro, and an lone wolf Wonder Woman in Artemis) too dangerous?

This entire comic is basically about Red Hood coming to terms with the idea that Bizarro might be too dangerous and Hood might have to take the monster out one day. It’s a big decision that Batman had to come to terms with years ago when he evaluated the existence of Superman and now Red Hood must decide that for himself with his (significantly) less predictable Superman. I think this development shows growth of the Red Hood character. This is the first time that Red Hood has to make a “Batman level” decisions. And he meets the challenge like an adult. Instead of raging against his father figure and striking out on a contrary path, Red Hood is choosing to take Batman’s actions as an example to follow, but not without his own evaluation.

Red Hood has to decide what kind of man he is going to be. Is he the kind of man who lets Bizarro run wild? Is he the type of man who kills Bizarro right now for the threat he might become? Or is he a third option? An option that looks a lot like how Batman lives his life. Is he a man who is ready to do what needs to be done, even if it means killing a man, but will do everything in his power to make sure that he never has to cross that line?
