Fist Fight Poster

Release Date: February 17th, 2017

Starring: Charlie Day, Ice Cube, Jillian Bell, Tracy Morgan, Christina Hendricks, Dean Norris

Director: Richie Keen (It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia, The Goldbergs, Angie Tribeca)

Pre-Trailer Thoughts: I’m a big fan of Charlie Day, thanks to his time on It’s Always Sunny in Philadelphia and great voice over work in Monster’s University and The Lego Movie. That being said, even though I love the dude, he hasn’t been cinematically on point all the time. Fist Fight may be a fun time or just fall flat. Let’s hope it can be the former. -LJF

Pre-Trailer Thoughts: As much as I love It’s Always Sunny In Philadelphia, Charlie Day’s burgeoning film career has been hit or miss so far. As great as his parts in Pacific Rim and The Lego Movie were his major comedic roles in the Horrible Bosses movies both fell pretty flat for me. I’m interested to see if Fist Fight will try and have him branch out from what he does on It’s Always Sunny or just play the same character over again. – JTM

Rate the Trailer: 3 out of 5. I’m not laughing a lot at the proceedings, but there’s no denying this movie looks entertaining, and the cast most definitely helps. Plus, an unleashed Ice Cube can be fantastic, as 21 and 22 Jump Street have proved. This seems to have a lot going for it. -LJF

Rate the Trailer: 2 out of 5. It is really apparent that this is mostly a vehicle for Charlie Day to act like Charlie from It’s Always Sunny. And while I realize that’s what he’s most used to playing, the rest of the movie doesn’t look like it will be on par with the show. None of the jokes in this trailer really landed for me, with a lot of it being uninspired physical comedy or unfunny quips. Even a supporting cast that throws in comedians that I like such as Tracy Morgan and Kumail Nanjiani doesn’t really salvage this for me. – JTM

Theater, Rent, No Thanks, Undecided? Rent. Fist Fight may be one of the diamonds in the rough in this month of movies, but I don’t see a reason to rush out to the theater to view it. Rental probably serves as the best way to check this out. -LJF

Theater, Rent, Undecided, No Thanks? No Thanks. At this point I’d rather just spend a night in watching classic It’s Always Sunny episodes than check this out. – JTM

Fist Fight begins the brawl on February 17th, 2017
