Review: Supergirl #9

By: Sheena Fisher

This issue continues the Batgirl Annual #1 story arch. Batgirl has been seen in Supergirl #8. She clearly senses that something is up, and she’s right. The girls must team up again. Lives are on the line. Can the girls escape the Phantom Zone?

Kara has been invited to a demonstration for the Tycho Eidolon. Which some of you may remember from issue #1. It uses phantom energy. What could go wrong? Oh wait…phantom energy comes from the phantom zone. But, that’s not the only thing to be worried about.

Just as the switch is flipped on for the Tycho Eidolon an enemy appears. And, just like the confrontation in issue 8 with Emerald Empress, he claims to be from the future! He isn’t giving Supergirl much information as to why he’s attacking her. While Supergirl is fighting this baddie the Eidolon goes awry. Innocent people are sucked in. Batgirl makes the brave decision to go into the newly opened portal and help. Supergirl of course follows after her.

Once Barbara and Kara arrive in the phantom zone they are reunited with Barbara’s missing friend. They comment on how they feel cold radiating from the inside of them. That’s the Phantom Zone for you. Of course, they aren’t alone in there. Will they escape? Action-packed read. Nice story build-up, and I want to learn more.
