Written by Logan J. Fowler and Justin Matchick

Last Jedi

Release Date:
December 15th, 2017

Starring: Daisy Ridley, John Boyega, Oscar Isaac, Mark Hammil, Adam Driver, Carrie Fisher

Director: Rian Johnson (Brick, Looper)

Pre-Trailer Thoughts:
The Force Awakens attempted to usher in a new generation of Star Wars fans while trying to appeal to the die hard audiences that fell in love with the franchise but needed to feel comfortable retiring to the saga after the prequels let them down. It played it safe, but when all was said and done, it was able to recapture the magic that was necessary to move forward. Now it’s up to to director Rian Johnson to move past the comfort zone and hopefully deliver a successful follow up. -LJF

Pre-Trailer Thoughts: Its Star Wars, you know what this is and you know you want to see it, regardless of what the trailer shows. That being said, it’ll be interesting to see how people pick this apart and how peoples predictions line up with the actual film. – JTM

Rate the Trailer: 5 out of 5. Not much is revealed here beyond what is basic knowledge. All the cast members are back, Luke has lines, and Rey is training. However, the tone, music, and environments shown all blend together to make an impressive trailer, and one that instantly gave me goosebumps. Those bumps weren’t as strong as the ones for The Force Awakens, but still, I got everything I wanted out of this. And that is more than enough. -LJF

Rate the Trailer: 4 out of 5
. Right from the starts it’s clear that they’ve borrowed the pacing and editing directly from the first teaser from The Force Awakens. Director Rian Johnson brings a darker tone and look, with many of the scenes we see being set at dusk or in extreme shadow. The only moment of brightness we really see here is the collection of speeders screaming across the desert with trails of red smoke behind them, a standout and visually impressive scene that really has my interest piqued. The scenes of fiery destruction we see, such as Poe’s ship exploding and Luke watching a Jedi temple burn, just prove that this might very well be the darkest entry in the Star Wars canon so far. – JTM

Theater, Rent, No Thanks, Undecided? Theater. It’s Star Wars. I’m there. -LJF.

Theater, Rent, No Thanks, Undecided? Theater. One of the easiest choices of the year. A definite must-see in theaters. – JTM
