Primus and Clutch Make Things Heavy, Weird & Psychedelic in Asbury Park

Pop Break Live: Primus with Clutch at The Stone Pony Summer Stage in Asbury Park, New Jersey

“Keep Asbury Weird” is a statement that has been uttered by locals in the “city that Bruce built” for the past 10 years.

Well, fortunately for the citizens and patrons of the city, Primus and Clutch brought the weird — as well as the heavy, psychedelic, and most importantly, great music to Asbury Park.

Clutch opened things up with usual bombastic set that included some chestnuts like “The Elephants Riders” and “Escape from the Prison Planet.” If you’ve never seen these guys groove live before, make it a priority to do so.

Primus, lead by Les Claypool, presented another visually stunning/trippy as all hell set. It was a mixture of insane lights, set pieces, and of course outlandishly brilliant musicianship.

Pop Break’s Matt Heasley caught the bands in action.
