Molly's Game

Release Date: November 22nd, 2017

Starring: Jessica Chastain, Idris Elba, Michael Cera, Chris O’ Dowd, Kevin Costner

Director: Aaron Sorkin (writer of A Few Good Men, The Social Network)

Pre-Trailer Thoughts: Aaron Sorkin has had a phenomenal track record as a writer in film, creating snappy dialogue and using them in a context that doesn’t deserve them. He once again is plugging that witty text into Molly’s Game. Not only is he writing it, but this is his first directing credit. -LJF

Pre-Trailer Thoughts: Dan Cohen and I spoke about this game at length on our fall movie preview podcast. This has crazy, crazy upside given the cast, and Sorkin’s writing chops. However, he’s best when he has someone editing him in the director’s seat — will he be completely unleashed in his directorial debut?

Rate The Trailer: 3 out of 5. The trailer is kind of choppy, and I don’t feel like it was edited in the best possible way. That being said, Chastain and Elba look to add so much to the proceedings, but Michael Cera seems very out of place here. It’ll be interesting to see how he is involved. Overall, it would’ve been a better trailer if just flowed a bit more. -LJF

Rate The Trailer: 4 out of 5. I’m intrigued as hell. Chastain looks fantastic, and I could see her name tossed about for Oscars by year’s end. The plot is really promising, so I’m looking forward to seeing this whole thing play out.

Theater, Rent, No Thanks, Undecided? Rent. Nothing about this is screaming theater, but Sorkin makes some compelling dialogue, so I feel like this is worth checking out at some point. -LJF

Theater, Rent, No Thanks, Undecided? Undecided. I’m split between rent and theater here. I think I’ll need another trailer before I make my decision. There’s a lot of potential here, but I’d like to see another trailer that really defines what we can expect froths movie in regards to tone.

Molly’s Game is in theaters on November 22nd, 2017
