Gotham City Garage #1

In The Real World we see what appears to be a post-apocalyptic landscape. Under the Garden everything is safe, clean, and bright. Everyone seems really happy, and by happy I mean REALLY happy, unable to be sad in fact.

The story starts off with us meeting blonde haired Kara Gordon. But, who exactly is she? I will try my best to avoid spoilers while still setting the stage for this comic. Basically, take everything you know about the DC Universe, and flip it on its side. Now you’re ready for Gotham City Garage.

There is a person on the street that is about to be killed by a strange artificial lifeform. Why? A “citizen malfunction” is what the error code is. Kara tells the machine who she is and instructs the “Gardener” to spare the man’s life because some the man’s tech is malfunctioning. The device is called ridealong tech and Kara is a technician for it. After saving the young man’s life she heads home.

When she arrives she can see the door is wide open and her father isn’t looking so hot. He warns Kara that “they know” and that he has been trying his entire life to protect her from this. To make matters worse his ridealong is on the fritz and a familiar face comes bursting through the doors…too bad he seems to be the bad guy here. Kara’s dad instructs her to run near the sun.

Kara takes off on her motorcycle confused as to why she would have to be near the sun. She gets to the high ground, hacks some gardeners, and bursts through the dome over The Garden. While doing so, Kara also flies. She obviously had no idea she had any such ability, but lands safely on the other side. Unfortunately for her there are 6 gardeners trying to kill her now. But, all hope isn’t lost because a bunch of babes on bikes come zooming up from nowhere to help Kara. You can expect to see introductions for some of your favorite DC characters here, and from new ones as well.

Of course the ladies at the Gotham City garage figure out who Kara really is. And, that Jim Gordon is her father (that’s right guys, JIM GORDON). The ladies at the garage are worried she’s an informant for Lex Luthor until Kara tells them she’s been looking for freedom since she was a little girl reading contraband comics. Also that Luthor wants her dead. That immediately changes their tune and they invite her to stay the night at the garage. Meanwhile in The Garden Jim Gordon is being questioned by Lex Luthor and that familiar face I previously mentioned. Jim makes a pretty startling confession here.

You’ll have to pick up this issue to learn what Jim’s confession is. You’ll also really want to see all the introductions to your other favorite heroes/villains in their biker forms. I just have to say that I love this strange take on the DC world. It’s pretty crazy to think that Kara Gordon is an actual existing character that was raised by Jim Gordon. She really has the best qualities of Supergirl and Bargirl mixed together so far. I’ve always been a fan of Babs and Kara so this is a dream come true. If you’re into strong women, dystopia, and the fight for freedom pick up this issue at your local comic shop. I really enjoyed the strange take on familiar characters.
