Trailer Tuesday: Fright Night

logan j. fowler and bill bodkin debate the new thriller with Colin Farrell …

Theater, Rent, No Thanks, Undecided? No Thanks.
After watching the trailer for Fright Night, I couldn’t really figure out if the film is straight-up horror, a horror mixed with comedy, or just a satire. While Anton Yelchin and Colin Farrell could’ve made me believe that it was aiming for pure scares, the casting of Christopher Mintz-Plasse — aka “McLovin” (shouldn’t he be playing characters out of high school by this point?) — felt like the movie was heading more towards a humorous vibe. Despite this gripe, I’ll probably be skipping Fright Night due to the fact that it looks like it could be a dud. Oh, and it’s a remake of a film that I’m sure didn’t need to be remade. That also helps my decision in not giving it a chance.

Theater, Rent, No Thanks, Undecided? Rent.
Seriously, Fowler? Fright Night looks like a helluva fun movie. Will it win any awards for acting or be lauded for its Shakespearean dialogue? Of course not. But this movie looks really fun, like an good horror-comedy should. There will be a lot of levity from the McLovin and former Dr. Who David Tennant. However, it’s going to Colin Farrell who is going to steal the show. Farrell’s really made up for his early cinematic sins, and I think this, being his first starring role in some time, will be one of his best. And I think his character embodies what this film will be — fun, frightening, gory and cool. I won’t see this in theater due to my schedule, but I think it’s definitely going to be at the top of my list when it comes out on DVD.
