Trailer Tuesday: The Sitter

logan j. fowler and bill bodkin look at the new Jonah Hill comedy …

Theater, Rent, No Thanks, Undecided? No Thanks.
If a trailer can’t get me to laugh at least once during its run time, then I ain’t buying. The Sitter looks painfully unfunny, and this is coming from someone who actually doesn’t mind Jonah Hill. Hill has shown that he can play well off other actors in his past films, but in what I consider Hill’s first leading man role (let’s be honest, Get Him To The Greek‘s main star was Russell Brand), he doesn’t seem to have anyone to launch his jokes on except for a trio of children for the majority of the film, and the material the kids have didn’t tickle my funny bone either. Also, the whole violent nature of the drug-dealer chase involving kids doesn’t totally sit right with me, as they may have pushed the comedy envelope a little too far in having children in that kind of scenario. Look, I’m not one against shock value. After all, the kids of South Park have escaped death (or not, in terms of Kenny). But the animation kind of creates a different atmosphere, and the live action situations portrayed in The Sitter are far different than the Comedy Central sitcom. In any case, I’ll “sit” this one out. -drum clash-

You serious, Fowler? Were it not for the slew of films I’m going to be seeing around Christmas (Misson: Impossible, Sherlock Holmes, The Girl With The Dragon Tattoo and possibly The Adventures Of Tintin) and the mass amount of holiday shopping that’ll be killing my wallet, I’d be at The Sitter in no time. This film reminds me a lot of Superbad. The initial trailers were mildly amusing, but as the weeks went on and new trailers were released, The Sitter really grew on me. There’s something about Jonah Hill’s style of acid-tongued comedy that I just dig. And from this trailer, I take it that Hill’s not holding back at all. I also think his interaction with his child co-stars, while offensive to some, is going to be downright spit my drink out through my nose funny. And any trailer that uses M.O.P.’s “Ante Up” wins in my book.
