Trailer Tuesday: Men in Black III

Theater, Rent, No Thanks, Undecided? Rent. Men in Black 3 seems like a movie time forgot. The last one came out 10 years ago, and quite frankly, failed to meet the standards set by the first one, which I consider a fun and quirky film. Part 2 was point for point the same as the first, all the way down to the stolen space artifact that needs to be saved by the MIB or stolen by the bad guy. Anyway, focusing on this threequel, seems Agent J (Will Smith, ageless) has to go back in time and save the life of Agent K (Tommy Lee Jones in the modern day, Josh Brolin in the past) before he is taken out in the future. Brolin is doing a spot on Jones impression here, and he should breathe some life into this franchise, but how much exactly? The time travel concept is different from the first two movies so it has that going for it, but in all honestly, while I made it a point to see both Men In Black movies in the theaters, this one I’ll just enjoy in the comfort of my own home. It has the undeniable possibility to be bad and I don’t want to waste too much finding out. –LJF

Theater, Rent, No Thanks, Undecided? Rent. Men in Black 3 looks like it could recapture the fun from the very first installment of the series…but I still can’t get that bad taste out of my mouth from the second film. So that’s why I’m going to stick to renting the third film in the franchise. While Josh Brolin’s dead-on Tommy Lee Jones impersonation can and will most likely be the highlight of this film, I just feel we’re going to get a same old, same old with MIB III. Same jokes, same plot, same loud, over-the-top Will Smith performance. And the end result is the same “meh” feeling I’ve got from the franchise overall.–BB
