The WWE-ek: Pre-4th of July Edition

michael dworkis gets in the ring …

week

It’s been a week. Beginning on a sad note, the original Doink the Clown, Matt Osbourne [he also wrestled as Matt Borne in WWF where he wrestled on the first Wrestlemania, ‘Maniac’ Matt Borne in World Class, Big Josh in WCW and Borne Again in ECW) passed away on Saturday. Doink was a colorful character which brought a light-hearted angle and a reminder that WWE was all about fun and entertainment.

A week of continued mazel and brachas for the masterminds behind WWE. Daniel Bryan and CM Punk are without a doubt the top two wrestlers in the company. Sure, Cena has the WWE Title and Del Rio has the World Championship, but the two people WWE fans want to see are two former Ring of Honor World Champions, Daniel Bryan, and CM Punk. Both delivering exceptionally on the mic and in the ring.

Big news, the announcements of the two lineups for the Money in the Bank matches. For the WWE Title contendership, we have: Rob Van Dam, CM Punk, Daniel Bryan, Kane, Randy Orton, Christian, and Sheamus. Challenging for the World Title MITB shot are: Dean Ambrose, Wade Barrett, Damien Sandow, Cody Rhodes, Fandango, Jack Swagger, and Antonio Cesaro.

Both matches are huge. HUGE. Without the Big Show even. You have current a future world champions in both matches. We also got the announcement of John Cena vs. Mark Henry, Dolph Ziggler vs. Alberto del Rio, and Chris Jericho vs. Ryback.

Chris Jericho vs. Ryback. How is this a match? Ryback is back to making squishy out of jobbers like Khali and Gabriel. Jericho made fun of Ryback. Now Ryback mad. Ryback hungry. They have match. Makes perfect sense. You know what is perfect? Curtis Axel and Paul Heyman. Well, mostly Paul Heyman. Heyman is a mad scientist. Axel is the latest pawn in the game, but this pawn might turn out to be a knight in disguise. While his mic skills certainly need polishing, we know his ring ability is near-perfect. His upcoming Intercontinental Title defense against The Miz should be a good one, as Axel needs to win in order to silence those who believe he has the belt just for a short-term push. I anticipate Brock Lesnar somehow costing CM Punk the MITB briefcase, setting up their match for SummerSlam.

Dolph Ziggler and Del Rio trade places, with the Mexican Aristocrat back in full-heel mode with his party and Ziggler playing the charismatic face by crashing it. I hope Ziggy is back to 100% because lord knows the World Title needs to get back on his waist.

Randy Orton has stepped up his game, being put in the ring with Kane and Bryan recently will force it to happen. Hell, keeping up with Bryan takes huge skill. I was impressed Orton and Bryan had an incredible match, but then again, Bryan can wrestle a stop sign and the sign would look good.

On the SmackDown side, having The Shield lose to The Usos and Christian makes for good intrigue. The Shield is shown to be down, but not out. This sets up Reigns and Rollins to defend against The Usos which will no doubt be a great match. Usos taking the titles is unlikely, but if it happened, it would be awesome. The only way I see Christian taking the US Title from Ambrose, is dependent on whether Ambrose wins MITB or not.

A lot going on this week, and I can guarantee even more will happen this coming week. When was the last time you recall John Cena and his WWE Title run being played down to non-main event?
