TV Recap: American Horror Story: Coven, ‘The Sacred Taking’

After last week’s absence, I’m sure everyone is as excited for the return of American Horror Story: Coven as I am. Things have been building progressively and I’m waiting for the big payout. I can tell you that tonight’s episode does not deliver it.

Please do not misunderstand me. Plenty happens in tonight’s episode but not that one big thing that makes you feel like you’re going to die until next week rolls around. The last scene of the episode was fairly predictable, especially if you read. I’d like to go ahead and thank a certain entertainment magazine for jumping the gun on that one. That cover might have been better suited for next week. You know who you are.

Here is the run-down of this week’s episode “The Sacred Taking”:

Queenie (Gabourey Sidibe) is now straight voodoo, doing dirty work for Marie Laveau (Angela Bassett). Despite her best efforts to be tough, she really might not be cut out for that kind of life.

Misty (Lily Rabe) joins in with the coven when her life is endangered by a witch hunter. She brings a familiar friend along with her. She may be more important than we ever thought.

Cordelia (Sarah Paulsen), now aware of Madison’s (Emma Roberts) resurrection, orchestrates the death of her mother Fiona (Jessica Lange). With the witch hunter on the loose, Fiona must die so the new Supreme can rise.

Side note: Do any other horror fans think Cordelia resembles Emily from Fulci’s The Beyond?

Madame LaLaurie (Kathy Bates) is still in capture at Marie Laveau’s house. Sure she deserves some torture for the things she had done in the past, but what tortures can be done to her that are worse than the death she cannot partake in?

Zoe (Taissa Farmiga) is helping Kyle (Evan Peters) learn to be human again while Madison wants him as a sex toy. One of them holds the upper hand in his heart.

Nan (Jamie Brewer) falls into some trouble when she attempts to rescue her boyfriend next door, Luke (Alexander Dreymon), from his crazy religious mother, Joan (Patti Lupone).

Like I said, plenty happens tonight but things have fizzled out a bit since the beginning of the season. We are getting a lot of little happenings and not enough Myrtle Snow (Frances Conroy) burning at the stake moments.

Someone give Zoe a chainsaw and do it fast!
