Pop-Preview: Governors Ball Music Festival 2014

Gov-Ball

The wait is finally over.

The Governors Ball Music Festival, which began in 2011, is presenting its fourth installment of music, food, art and all out fun.

Pop-Break is excited and honored to be a part of the festival again for the third time. Being a part of this festival in its first year was an absolute honor and one the true moments on this site that we’ll never forget. It gave us a sense of legitimacy and we marvel how much this festival has grown not just in the day of bands and days it covers, but the reputation it has built as one of the top tests in the nation.

So, we figured we’d give you a breakdown of everything that’s going to be happening, plus some content that we’ve done over the years on the artists performing. Enjoy!

Our #1 recommendation to you is know your schedule. Go to the festival’s line-up page and you can customize your own line-up itinerary. Keep in mind there are sets that will be happening simultaneously, so plan accordingly. Yes, they do have an app you can download for iPhone and Android as well.

Photo / GIF Booths (description from website)
Providing folks with an opportunity to capture their good looks, shenanigans, and weirdness is awesome – especially at awesome events. And for this reason, we are providing multiple state-of-the-art photo booths for your participating pleasure. Your four photos inside the booth will be printed out immediately, and you also have the option to have the GIF or JPEG emailed to you. So put down the camera-phone, grab your friends, and let these high-tech gizmos capture the memories you may not quite remember.

Mile End Deli Experience (description from website)
One of the very best things about NYC is the abundance of delis all over the city. They provide you with customizable sandwiches to satiate your hungry tummy (and for some, your hangry personality), and they are located on most blocks. What could be better or more convenient than that?! We know you New Yorkers like your deliciousness and your convenience, so we’ve signed up Mile End Deli, Zagat’s top rated Deli in NYC, to provide a full service Deli Experience at the festival. Featuring a plethora of meat choices, bread choices, fixin’ choices, and more, the Mile End Del Experience will let you do food your way – cuz after all, it’s your way…or the Mothaf’in highway!

There’s also a TON of vendors that include gluten-free, vegan and vegetarian options. Click here to view.

Lawn Games (description from website): Lawn games are simply fun stuff. Whether you’re looking for a breather from the crowd, or need a good reason to trash talk a friend, lawn games are for you. With Corn Hole, Ladder Ball, Bocce Ball, and Life-size Connect Four, you will surely be able to find a game that suits your needs and satiates that winning desire. These games will be completely self managed, so stop by at the festival at any time for a game or two!

Mixology Tent (description from website)
Located in the Food and Shade Oasis and new to the festival this year is the Mixology Tent, a dedicated area where you can get delicious and hand crafted cocktails, curated by the folks from Fort Defiance, of Red Hook, Brooklyn fame. This 21+ area offers those of you with high cocktail standards an opportunity to sip on delicious beverages and try mixed drinks that you probably have never had before. Learn about how your drink was made, what it consists of, and more. Cocktails and dreams…all day long.

We’ve also been informed that Tequila Don Julio will be in the mixology tent as well. Tequila Don Julio will be offering VIP tastings and specialty cocktails via the Airstream Speakeasy, a 1967 vintage Airstream trailer that has been completely retrofitted into a mobile, craft cocktail bar. They’ll be in the Freeloaders Lounge area all weekend.

We’ve also been informed there will be a Miller Lite Lounge and Honda Zone — info has not come in yet on those.

Festival Necessities: We’re not your parents, but we’d like to make some facts known to you that will aid in providing you a safe, healthy and responsible time at the festival.

“Mom” Tips From Us:

1. Remember, throw on some sunblock — it’ll be a gorgeous weekend, but the burn factor for fests is always high, so make sure you’re properly sun screened.
2. Also, keep hydrated. This is a looong weekend, so make sure you have some water every once in a while to keep on the up and up.
3. Don’t do anything stupid – you paid to get in, do you wanna blow the opportunity for a great time by doing something dumb?
4. Have a Rally Point: Going with a group? Have a fail safe rally point that at the end of the fest you will all meet at, so even if you get separated during the festival, you’ll know where you’ll all end u.
5. Have fun.

Festival Tips & Info…

1. Sober Ball (description from website): Let’s be honest; you don’t have to indulge in order to enjoy music festivals. With over 70 artists, tons of activities, art installations, delicious food and more, there’s a ton of fun stuff to do. And for folks that like to enjoy life without indulging, there will be a sober group on-site where you can hang with like minded friends and enjoy the day.

2. Lockers (Provided By: PayPal) (description from website): You spoke. We listened. We’ll be providing a limited number of lockers available for purchase on site. If you want a secure space to lock up some personal belongings to free up your hands/feet/pockets, we got you covered. When you reserve a locker online, you’ll receive an email 24 hours before the fest containing your locker location, number, and combination code so you can simply get right in there and have easy access all day! Thank you PayPal!

3. Free Water Refill Stations (Provided By: CamelBak) (description from website): Free water is to music festivals as free breakfast is to hotels – it’s not always standard but it damn well should be. As such, we will have 8 refillable water stations at the festival to quench y’alls thirst throughout the weekend. Unlike other water delivery systems that merely dispense municipal water, these water refill stations are fitted with state of the art filtration systems (including ultraviolet sterilization) to bring you premium, refreshing and great tasting drinking water free of charge. In addition, these water stations will reduce the amount of plastic bottles used at the event, and as a result, we all score points with Mother Earth. Stay hydrated, stay green, stay cool.
