The WWE-ek: Money in the Bank 2014 Preview

It’s time for ladders!

This Sunday is Money in the Bank. The bank is stocked with goodies this year. A WWE Championship title match, plus the actual Money in the Bank ladder match itself, along with some other high-profile matches.

Before we get to that, let’s take a quick look at events from the week.

Vickie Guerrero leaving. This was coming. Many knew she was ready to retire from the business and with a lack of storyline for her character and a rush to end her television appearances, WWE found the strangest, yet surprisingly apropos method of doing it. Her screeching and shouting “excuse me” which made her heel-character famous, transformed into someone proud of her name and her accomplishments, whether liked or hated by the fans. The final curtain call came with Stephanie bashing the Guerrero name, but Vickie reminded everyone who she is and who her husband was, Eddie, and how he perfected “lying, cheating, and stealing.” Was an acceptable way to go.

As many of you have heard, Wade Barrett got some very bad news of his own. Suffering an injury at the hands of Jack Swagger on SmackDown, a legit injury, Mr. Barrett may be out of the Money in the Bank contract match. This would be disappointing as it was in passing rumors he was set to win the match. However, many feel this could be the year for Dolph Ziggler to claim his second MITB contract and redeem himself from last year’s incident where he was sidelined due to injury (coincidentally in a match with Jack Swagger) and had to drop the title back to Del Rio in a one-sided contest.

Let’s get to the lineup, as it stands for the moment:

Rybaxel vs. The ‘Dusts
I don’t have a better name right now for the duo of Goldust and Stardust. I really hope the gimmick goes over well. Otherwise we will end up with a Rhodes Brothers feud which will end well for neither. Rybaxel has become a good mid-card team, much like how The Beverly Brothers or Well Dunn survived their stints in wrestling for years. Rybaxel has nothing to gain nor lose in this one, while the pressure is on to see whether the new gimmick for Cody Rhodes can get over.

Naomi vs. Paige, Divas Title Match – Paige will win when Cameron costs Naomi the match. Or, Naomi will dominate the whole thing until Paige makes one little counter and locks in the PTO for the win. Whatever.

The Usos defend the WWE Tag Team Championships against Luke Harper and Erick Rowan
This could be an incredible match. We have seen six-man tags and singles matches involving all four, and each match never disappoints. No one will come out loser in this one, but perhaps the Usos are about to shed a few pounds off their waists.

Big E. Langston vs. Alexander Rusev – Big man vs. Big man match. This will feel more like filler than anything else, and unless we get some good moves from either, it might be a dud.

Money in the Bank Contract match – Dolph Ziggler, RVD, Kofi Kingston, Wade Barrett, Jack Swagger, Dean Ambrose, and Seth Rollins. The only people I could see winning are Barrett, Ziggler, Ambrose, and Rollins. We know Kofi is there just to fly, RVD is there just to be there, and Swagger will be the guy to powerhouse everyone. The match will likely focus and Ambrose and Rollins trying to stop each other, so unless there is further outside interference, it is possible Ambrose could foil the plans of Triple H and win. Or, neither Rollins or Ambrose win, and they have some sort of gimmick match at SummerSlam. This will be a fun match to watch.

WWE Championship Ladder Match – Roman Reigns, John Cena, Randy Orton, Cesaro, Sheamus, Bray Wyatt, Alberto del Rio, and Kane. I would like to see Alberto del Rio win it. He’s been buried at the bottom for so long, and a sudden title win will shoot up back into the spotlight where I believe he belongs. However there are many other factors here. They are pushing the potential for John Cena to have his 15th title reign. They push Randy Orton as Triple H’s “face of WWE” or pushing Roman Reigns as the next big thing in the company. Kane is likely there to prevent the faces from winning. I would also love to see Cesaro win the title, because it would be the “no one expected it to happen, but really wanted it to happen moment.” I would love it. I just do not want to see Cena or Orton win. It would be such a PPV killer.

Even though Amazon already blew the main event for SummerSlam. The posted the poster of Cena vs. Brock Lesnar. It has since been removed, but the damage is done. This may point to Cena winning title #15 and having to defend it against Brock, since Paul Heyman announced a few weeks ago Brock was suddenly the #1 Contender for SummerSlam.

There you have it. This one looks good, two ladder matches and even the under care promises some good action.
