Plot: On the occasion of his fifth wedding anniversary, Nick Dunne (Ben Affleck) reports that his wife, Amy (Rosamund Pike), has gone missing. Under pressure from the police and a growing media frenzy, Nick’s portrait of a blissful union begins to crumble. Soon his lies, deceits and strange behavior have everyone asking the same dark question: Did Nick Dunne kill his wife?

Pre-Trailer Thoughts: One of the most acclaimed books (that I have yet to read) in recent memory is getting made into a movie. Pretty straight forward. –LJF

Pre-Trailer Thoughts: Great director. Great cast. Great premise. I’m stoked. –BB

Rate the Trailer (1-5): Five out of five. I only know what I need to know about the book thanks to my girlfriend, but this trailer put me over the top; I HAVE to read the novel asap. Referring to what we’ve seen thus far, there’s a lot going on in the trailer but still we know so little, and it seems like Ben Affleck’s character wiped out his wife, but do we know for sure? Not much is clear and that’s what I like about it; the mystery. And the minimal dialogue and building music…it’s just all so perfectly cut. –LJF

Rate the Trailer (1-5): Five out of five. Only David Fincher could make NPH seem like a psycho creep and Tyler Perry look like a good actor. This trailer is masterfully laid out, really building a sense of “whodunnit” but also painting shades of gray throughout. No wonder this trailer broke the Internet yesterday. –BB

Theater, Rent, No Thanks, Undecided? Theater. As the Oscar season starts to show its teeth in late 2014, I think Gone Girl may be a contender. I’ve tried each year to see more and more movies that are ripe for academy picking, and this may be one. No doubt about it, I’ve gotta see this, whether I get to the book in time or not. –LJF

Theater, Rent, No Thanks, Undecided? Theater. I can joke that my wife is going to drag me to see this because Ben Affleck is in this. But I don’t need to make any excuses about seeing this movie — it’s one of the best directors in the game today working with a brilliant array of actors. Fincher is a master, he even made that unnecessary Girl with the Dragon Tattoo remake enjoyable. With the dark subject matter and great cast I can’t wait to see what Fincher can do here. –BB
