Pre-Trailer Thoughts: A sequel to one of the most visually stunning and faithful graphic novel is finally getting made. This probably would’ve made me more excited seven years ago.

Pre-Trailer Thoughts: The original Sin City was such an awesome film experience, I’m on the fence about this one. Part of me is absolutely stoked. Part of me wonders with Rodriguez’s less than awesome recent track record and the amount of time between films if the magic is going to be lost.

Rate the Trailer (1-5): Three out of five. While the look of the film still is arresting, you can’t say that aesthetics in film haven’t come a long way since Sin City’s cinematic release in 2005. The strongest points of the trailer are really the actors involved. Returning are Mickey Rourke, Jessica Alba, Bruce Willis, and Rosario Dawson. Josh Brolin takes over for Clive Owen (story explains why), Eva Green is the titular dame, and Joseph Gordon-Levitt joins the noir narration. The cast is amazing; let’s hope that the film is the same. I’m not totally getting the same excitement for this as I was for the original.–LJF

Rate the Trailer (1-5): Three out of five. First thing I got out of this — Hartigan and Nancy on screen at the same time? Uhhh…. how? Eva Green looks gorgeous in this and she comes off like such a great villain here. And I’m sure I’m not the only one who can’t wait to see Rourke donning the Marv persona again. This was a solid trailer but nowhere near as earth shattering as the original Sin City trailer.–BB

Theater, Rent, No Thanks, Undecided? Rent. Since funds are low and my cinematic viewings aren’t really that abundant anymore, I will pass on a theatrical sit down for this, and instead go for a rental. Story wise, I really like how the film tackles a few tales from author/artist Frank Miller (who also co-directs with Robert Rodriguez), essentially making three mini movies in one. However, my enthusiasm for this just isn’t coming to be. Striking while the iron was hot could’ve helped; however I understand movies don’t work on my clock. With that said, I’ll be checking this out when it comes to home video. –LJF

Theater, Rent, No Thanks, Undecided? Rent. The trailer has me interested, but it hasn’t inspired me. I don’t feel compelled to drop money for a ticket for this one. It’s definitely worth checking out on a rental, but as I mentioned before, Rodriguez’s recent history and Miller’s other directorial effort, The Spirit (which could be one of the worst movies ever) doesn’t inspire a lot of confidence in me. –BB
