Release Date: December 19, 2014

Starring: Jamie Foxx, Quvenzhané Wallis, Cameron Diaz, Rose Byrne, Bobby Cannavale, David Zayas.

Director: Will Gluck (Easy A, Friends with Benefits)

Official Summary: Quvenzhané Wallis (Beasts of the Southern Wild) stars as Annie, a young, happy foster kid who’s also tough enough to make her way on the streets of New York in 2014. Originally left by her parents as a baby with the promise that they’d be back for her someday, it’s been a hard knock life ever since with her mean foster mom Miss Hannigan (Cameron Diaz). But everything’s about to change when the hard-nosed tycoon and New York mayoral candidate Will Stacks (Jamie Foxx) – advised by his brilliant VP, Grace (Rose Byrne) and his shrewd and scheming campaign advisor, Guy (Bobby Cannavale) – makes a thinly-veiled campaign move and takes her in. Stacks believes he’s her guardian angel, but Annie’s self-assured nature and bright, sun-will-come-out-tomorrow outlook on life just might mean it’s the other way around.

Pre-Trailer Thoughts: Musical a lot of people probably forgot about gets a modern day update, because, you know…why not? –LJF

Pre-Trailer Thoughts: It’s a beloved musical with a less than stellar big screen adaptation, so it makes sense that the biggest names in entertainment throw their weight behind it. -BB

Rate the Trailer (1-5): One out of five. I wish Jamie Foxx and Rose Bryne would try to do other things, because they are both awesome and deserve better. The only line in this trailer that was moderately entertaining was Foxx referring to himself as Batman after the media shows him saving Annie. Otherwise, I don’t know why this movie even exists. –LJF

Rate the Trailer (1-5): One out of five. Man, this just looks all sorts of awful. –BB

Theater, Rent, No Thanks, Undecided? No thanks. I have a suspicious feeling my girlfriend may want to see this. She loves musicals and Annie is one of them. In fact, one of the many reasons she attended Monmouth University because the original Annie was filmed there. Well, I guess if she asks me I will begrudgingly go. But I’ll attempt to see if we can just watch the original instead. –LJF

Theater, Rent, No Thanks, Undecided? No thanks. I kinda hated the original film and this looks like a glossy, schmaltzed out, paint-by-numbers update. I’ll pass. –BB
