TV Recap: American Horror Story: Freak Show

AHS-Freak-Show

On this week’s episode of American Horror Story: Freak Show entitled “Bullseye,” Elsa (Jessica Lange) reveals a dangerous new act, Dandy (Finn Wittrock) exposes his love for the twins to his mother and a lot more of himself to the twins, Paul (Mat Fraser) is involved in more than one secret relationship and Stanley (Denis O’Hare) pressures Maggie (Emma Roberts) to make a kill.

After Elsa abandons the Tattler Twins (Sarah Paulson) at Dandy’s house, Dandy reveals to his mother that he is in love with the girls and plans to marry them. Bette has fallen in love with him and the lavish lifestyle she has become accustomed to. Dot, on the other hand, wants to return to the Freak Show to where Jimmy (Evan Peters) is, as she is in love with him. Dandy makes a comment on the first successful separation of Siamese twins and Dot comes to the realization that Dandy could make that happen with all of his money.

Paul (Mat Fraser) has been having a secret affair with Elsa, who has no feelings for him beyond the sexual kind. In his search for something more, Paul becomes involved with Penny (Grace Gummer), whom you might remember as the candy striper from episode one. Penny, however, has an overprotective and slightly unstable father who won’t appreciate his daughter sleeping with a freak.

After a run in with Dandy at a local shop, Paul becomes aware that Dandy has the Twins when he sees Dandy purchasing doubles of feminine items. This, of course, goes against Elsa’s story that the Twins escaped out the back door of the dress shop and abandoned them. Paul confronts Elsa about what she did, causing her to lose it in front of the other freaks. The only way for the freaks to prove they trust her is for one of them to strap into the wheel, Elsa’s new trick, and let her throw knives at them. Being that he accused her, Paul takes one for the team and “accidently” gets a knife to the gut.

This “accident” opens more than a few eyes to Elsa’s lies. Paul had told Jimmy his theory about the Twins before he went to Elsa. Once Paul was injured and the doctor never showed, it became increasingly obvious that the doctor was never called and Elsa isn’t the savior everyone believed her to be.

Stanley wants Maggie to kill Jimmy to take his “claws.” She seeks out every excuse she can think of to keep Jimmy safe, because she has obviously fallen in love with him. She offers to kill another freak in his stead, leading her to Ma Petite’s (Jyoti Amge) room.

Jimmy learned where the Tattler Twins were. Once he returns to the show with them, Elsa is in deep trouble, especially with Ethel, who has threatened to kill her if she had anything to do with their disappearance.

“Bullseye” is an eventful episode but seems to be more of a buildup episode than anything. A lot happens, but almost everything has been left open to next week. With all of the revelations in this episode, next week is sure to be a big one. I cannot wait for Dandy to go back to his psychotic self. He is more entertaining that way. I’m hoping he has a run in with Dell (Michael Chiklis) at that gay bar. That would certainly make for an interesting match-up, but I think that is how Stanley will meet his end. I guess we will see!
