Notable Openings This Weekend: The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part I

This is one of those weekends that make Box Office Predictions pretty damn easy. Analysis: The Hunger Games will make a lot of money. The end. Let’s wrap this up, and get the Katniss out of here.

Not only is Hunger Games the big movie of the weekend, but this series has been very consistent so far. Both previous films made between $150-$160 Million opening weekend, and I expect the same. Of course the Hunger Games is following the latest model of splitting everything up. Why make $1 Billion dollars when you can make $2 Billion dollars? I guess it’s hard to argue with that logic. I’ve never read a single page of the Hunger Games series, but just knowing the final book is 400 pages long, I’m pretty sure splitting it into two parts is completely unnecessary.

Not only has the money for Hunger Games been consistent, but so have the reviews. This recent film has suffered a bit in that department though, but I don’t think ho-hum reactions will stop this train anytime soon. There’s only one left after this, but I’m sure the studio is in a room right now trying to convince Suzanne Collins to write a prequel series or something. We haven’t seen the last of Hunger Games, just like we haven’t seen the last of Harry Potter.

HOW WILL IT ALL BREAK DOWN…

The Hunger Games wins, and the drop off between #1 and #2 will be massive this week. The more interesting race is actually between spots 2-4, which will be extremely close.
