Release Date: August 7th, 2015

Starring: Miles Teller, Michael B. Jordan, Kate Mara, Jamie Bell

Director: Josh Trank (Chronicle)

Pre-Trailer Thoughts: Marvel’s flagship family gets a make over in movie form. Because you know, movie rights need to stay right where they are. -LF

Pre Trailer Thoughts: I follow this stuff pretty closely and even I have almost no idea what to expect with this movie. We have seen no costumes. No images have been leaked. It’s kinda cool but also has me a bit worried. The only bit of BTS info that I have heard is that Latverian dictator and Marvel mega-villain Dr. Doom will be reduced to a hacker named Domachev or something like that. That’s weak. -MK

Rate the Trailer: One point five out of five.. Ok, why does every superhero movie reboot have to be “dark?” Batman gets an excuse, cause he’s Batman. But just like the first Amazing Spider-Man (which I ended up loving, but I digress), this one paints the atmosphere in blacks and greys. Why? IT’S A COMIC BOOK MOVIE. GET OVER YOURSELF. Also, I do not know how I feel about these young kids being the team. Miles Teller as Mr. Fantastic? Couldn’t we get Jon Hamm? And Jamie Bell as Ben Grimm is so far away from what I thought The Thing would be. This whole thing reeks of bad decision making.-LJF

Rate the Trailer: Three out of five. Originally this trailer got a four star review from me but then I remembered how much of it was just random landscapes and silly voice over. You lose a star for being too much of a cliche. Otherwise, I didn’t hate it as much as I thought I would (maybe because there was no Dombowski) and I was actually happy to see Johnny Storm on fire and a full CGI Thing in this trailer. Originally I assumed they would just show the before and not the afters in the first look.

Here is my big issue. They don’t seem like they want to make a superhero movie and that bugs me. Sure, Marvel had great success with movies that weren’t JUST superhero movies. Cap 2 was not just a superhero movie but also a spy movie. Guardians was not just a superhero movie but also a space opera. It seems like Fox is getting rid of the “just” and straight up not trying to make a superhero movie and watching the trailer really solidified my assumption. That seems like a mistake.

Also what is up with Miles Teller’s voice at the end? -MK

Theater, Rent, No Thanks, Undecided? Undecided. This is a comic book movie so I know it’ll get my money one way or another, but seriously, I need to see a little bit more on this before I make a final decision. As of right now, I am not really happy with what I am seeing. -LJF

Theater, Rent, No Thanks, Undecided? Theater. I’ll see it. Curiosity will likely drive my decision more than anything else and isn’t that what the Fant4stic is all about? -MK
