Alexander Botwin started out as a music producer; however, in 2011 he set his sights on creating music under the name Paper Diamond. Since then he has released one full length album and two EP’s. Recently, Paper Diamond debuted Rain Drops, a four-song EP, showcasing his stylistic range.

Rain Drops starts off with “We Gone” featuring Shoffy. Relying on steady dance beats, compiled with light melodies and full verses, it’s a nice introduction to the EP, setting the tone for what is to come. This track works to hook most listeners into continuing on to the next songs, since it’s pretty versatile to different music tastes.

The EP continues with an effortless transition to “Take Me Away”, which again offers an enjoyable dance rhythm up until about a minute in when it switches to more of a dubstep sound, giving the song nice range. It offers an enjoyable blend of bass and beats which would work well in a club scene. This track is my favorite on the EP, it mixes different styles while still sounding like one fluid song.

The third song slows things down a bit. Honestly, the musical sound encapsulates its title perfectly. “Gotta Wake Up” features highly synthesized vocals backed by a lethargic tempo that pretty accurately expresses what it’s like to try to wake up when you’re not a morning person, or completely hung over.

“Towers” closes out the EP with a straight-up trance-style track. The sound still carries the synth-like style from the last song, but is completely instrumental. I would have liked to have heard a little more out of the song, but it works to act as the end credits to Paper Diamond’s musical story.

Overall, Rain Drops proves Paper Diamond capable of offering listeners with an interesting range of styles through the four song run.

Paper Diamond’s Rain Drops EP is available for streaming now on SoundCloud.
