Trailer Tuesday

MI 5 Poster

Release Date: July 31st, 2015

Starring: Tom Cruise, Simon Pegg, Jeremy Renner, Alec Baldwin, Rebecca Ferguson, Ving Rhames,

Director: Christopher McQuarrie (Jack Reacher)

Pre-Trailer Thoughts: Who would’ve thought the M:I cinematic franchise would go five entries deep? These movies have had many talented directors working on them, but McQuarrie is not a well-known name. Hopefully that doesn’t harm the newest installment. –LJF

Pre-Trailer Thoughts: I’m not familiar with the original TV show and I’ve only seen Ghost Protocol, but I thought that was pretty good. I was enthralled watching Tom Cruise climb the Burj Khalifa in Dubai, so I’m wondering if they can top that. It’s a little troubling though that it’s 4 months until opening day and they’re only now releasing trailers. And they just finished filming, after changing the ending. –AS

Rate the Trailer: Four out of five. This looks like a ton of fun, and the last shot in the trailer (also showcased in the poster) left me breathless. How can these movies continue to come up with such nail-biting sequences? Who knows, but I don’t care. Most of the team from Ghost Protocol is back (no sight of the gorgeous Paula Patton, but what can you do), and I would pay full price just to see Simon Pegg banter with Tom Cruise. The extreme action and spy espionage doesn’t hurt either. Plus Alec Baldwin as the bad guy?! Awesome! This trailer is solid; let’s hope the movie delivers. –LJF

Rate the Trailer: 3.5 out of 5. It’s nice to see that they brought Simon Pegg back; his tech support role was one of the best parts of the previous movie. Tom Cruise is as smug as ever and I can live with that. He still has a certain charm. As for the plot, nothing really blew me away there. If the Syndicate is a splinter cell, it could add some good paranoia, concerning who to trust. I’m not sure the movie’s going there though. The plane stunt could top the skyscraper climb, maybe. I’m not totally sold on it yet. Tom Cruise is doing the stunt himself though, so that’s nice. –AS

Theater, Rent, No Thanks, Undecided? Undecided. Don’t get me wrong, this looks awesome, but being realistic, I don’t know if I will have the time or money to see this. If anything, it’ll be a definite rental come home video release. That’s my mission and I’ll choose to accept it. –LJF

Theater, Rent, No Thanks, Undecided? Undecided. This is might be one of those movies I’ll wait to hear what people have to say about. There are a few other big movies coming out in July, and I’m not sure I’d go to this one, if I had to choose. The plane stunt better be great, because they put it on the teaser poster too. If so, it will be a great reason to go to the local IMAX theater. -AS
