The Gaslight Anthem took to social media last night to announce that they will be taking a break for the foreseeable future.

The following was posted on the band’s Facebook page.

Hello all!

We wanted to let everyone know that we’ll all be taking a break from The Gaslight Anthem after this next European tour in August. We’re all going to do other projects and stay active in some way or another, both in and out of music, but we’d like to step away from the band until we decide what we’d like to do next.

We’d like to recharge and take a step back until we have something we feel excited about rather than going right back to making a record just for the sake of making the next record. We all feel this is the best decision we can make and it feels like the right one for us.

Thank you to everyone who came out and supported our band for the last eight years and we’ll see you down the road!

With love and respect,

Brian, Benny, Alex and Alex.

The Gaslight Anthem rose to fame from the fertile crescent of the New Jersey music in 2008 with the release of their sophomore record, ’59 Sound. Subsequent releases American Slang and Handwritten bolstered the band’s name amongst the kings of the alternative scene. The band would tour the world multiple times over, and would become a favorite of Jersey’s god amongst men, Bruce Springsteen – an artist the band would draw constant comparisons too.

The band’s last record, Get Hurt, released just about one year ago, was a bit of departure, channeling more of a grunge sound. The album was not received as warmly as the band’s previous records from fans, despite debuting at #4 on the Billboard Top 200. The band also remained a constant touring success – recently headlining the 2015 Skate & Surf Fest of their new home turf, Asbury Park. They will be playing Gathering of the Vibes this weekend in Connecticut, as well as some shows in Europe before calling it a day.

This hiatus seems to be an ‘indefinite’ one, and there is no word on when, if ever, will Gaslight get back together. The band members have been parts of other group. Most notably singer Brian Fallon has fronted Horrible Crowes and Molly & The Zombies.
