Archie has seen a lot of action the past year. The comic series was rebooted after its 666 issue, a live action adaptation was picked up by the CW and now, Anchorman director Adam McKay and Funny or Die are bringing the legendary characters to the stage.
Archie, Veronica, Betty, and the rest of the Riverdale gang are coming to Broadway in an Archie inspired musical. McKay, who will be writing the book for the show, said in a press release “Archie represents a bygone era of America. And like all bygone eras, there are elements we miss and elements that should be bygone. This will be a musical that deals with both those realities in a bright, colorful and slightly demented way.” The creative team, as well as timing for a New York run will be announced at a later date.
Archie Comics CEO, Jon Goldwater, and CCO Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa, will oversee the project, while Funny or Die will serve as presenting partner.
