The Great Wall Panel Recap at Madison Square Garden

Audiences were treated to an advanced look at the trailer of the highly anticipated big budget monster film, The Great Wall. It stars Matt Damon, Pedro Pascal, Tian Jing, among others. Directed by Yimou Zhang, who is known for his groundbreaking work on Hero and House of Flying Daggers.

The film, which centers around the great man-made wonder, and the secret army of soldiers chosen to defend it against a monstrous force. Damon and Pascal, who play mercenaries that are brothers in war — one of whom is interested in stealing gunpowder from the Chinese. Damon and Pascal’s characters eventually lead the charge against the force looking to overtake the wall.

The reception from the crowd was largely positive. Littered with breathtaking shots of the landscape depicting the lands natural beauty. The huge standout being the choreography of the intense fights and huge invasion set pieces.

Zhang called the movie “a huge monster movie that is spatacularally shot and will amaze audiences.” Huge is indeed an accuarate word to describe the film, which needed over 100 translators for the entire cast and crew as well as three different Wall set pieces for different shots. Damon went on to say “It’s the biggest film I’d ever been a part of.”

The Great Wall hits theaters next February.
