Review: Batman #10

When Writer Tom King took the reigns on Batman’s solo title, he was stepping into very big shoes. He was following up on Scott Snyder’s legendary run on Batman (which was a follow up to Grant Morrison’s icon run with the Dark Knight). King had to follow two of the greatest Batman runs of all time and, to date, he has done a decent job. But, this is the issue where his story really hits a new high point.

Batman #10 has it all. It’s a smart story that also has some incredible action in it. The main story follows Batman as he goes to Santa Prisca to fight Bane in the prison that turned Bane into the super villain he is today. It’s a badass action packed story that sees Batman conquering some of the greatest horrors that Bane had to live through as he grew up. While this is going on, there is a constant flow of narration from a character (whose identity I won’t disclose now) that adds a layer of depth to it that I had not previously seen in the entirety of King’s run.

I even got choked up at one point. For real, I got choked up reading a Batman comic.

The art in this book is also very cool. I’ve always been a big fan of Bane’s origin story (all the way about to Batman: Vengeance of Bane #1), and it was cool to see some of Santa Prisca’s most iconic locations rendered in the modern style.
