Trailer Tuesday

Baby Driver

Release Date: August 11th, 2017

Starring: Ansel Elgort, Lily James, Jon Hamm, Jon Bernthal, Jamie Foxx, Kevin Spacey, Flea

Director: Edgar Wright (Shaun of the Dead, Hot Fuzz, The World’s End, Scott Pilgrim vs. the World)

Pre-Trailer Thoughts Edgar Wright is, without a doubt, my favorite director. He’s given me two films that I hold near and dear to my heart with Shaun of the Dead and Scott Pilgrim vs. The World. The rest of the “Cornetto Trilogy” is also fantastic, and his tv show Spaced deserves a watch. I could go on. Anyway, while I would’ve loved to have seen his version of Ant-Man, perhaps it was best that he left the project. His latest film, Baby Driver, comes out this summer and needless to say, I’ve been looking forward to it since it was announced. -LJF

Pre-Trailer Thoughts: Edgar Wright is one of the most fun and inventive filmmakers working today, and it’s a shame his vision for Ant-Man was not able to make it to the screen. Luckily Baby Driver exists, and will wind up being his second foray outside of the “Cornetto Trilogy” after Scott Pilgrim. This has been one of my most anticipated movie for a while now, and I’m stoked to finally see some footage. – JTM

Rate the Trailer: 4 out of 5. Right from the get go, Wright’s visual style makes itself known to those who know it well. The soundtrack kicks in, and the plot is revealed. Baby Driver, plotwise, seems to be more mainstream than Wright’s previous efforts, but that doesn’t mean it’s bad. The dude is due some respect, box office wise and audience wise, and this may be his way to earn it. Add in a cast of all stars and he really seems to aiming for the sleeper hit of the summer. –LJF

Rate the Trailer: 4 out of 5. The rating is for the U.S. trailer, which is great, but if you want to see a real 5 out of 5 trailer watch the International version. It does a much better job of highlighting Edgar Wright’s directorial style (not to mention it makes great use of “Radar Love”). The supporting cast alone would make this must see, with Kevin Spacey, Jon Hamm, and Jamie Foxx rounding out a cast headed by Ansel Elgort. I wasn’t too keen on Elgort before, but this gives me a lot of confidence in his acting chops. It’s great to see glimpses of how exciting and inventive the car chases will be, with the added bonus of what will surely be an amazing soundtrack. – JTM

Theater, Rent, No Thanks, Undecided? Theater. The action, style, and soundtrack in this movie seems ripe for a theater viewing. Wright’s involvement makes it a must see on the big screen. I can’t wait. -LJF

Theater, Rent, Undecided, No Thanks?
Theater. Absolutely a must see for me, and I hope everyone else too. Despite being cult faves a lot of Wright’s movies don’t get the commercial recognition they deserve, and I hope this is his first really big hit. – JTM

Baby Driver rolls into theaters on August 11th, 2017
