Review: Harley Quinn #20

Written by Sheena Fisher

A blast from the PA…wait, future? We start a new tale called A Blast from the Future. Harley was successful in taking down cannibals in issue 19. Her glee from success doesn’t last long. Of course you know something else is lurking to cause her trouble.

Lots of trouble.

After uncovering what happened to the homeless people that were disappearing Harley heads back home. The only bad thing, she is super stressed because her parents are coming to visit. Which means, she has to clean. I wonder how her parents will react to the catapult on the roof she uses to get rid of…well…animal waste. There’s also the murderer downstairs, and a burlesque joint nearby. But, it’s Harley, she lives in a place that’s suited to her personality. Her parents know about her day job, but they don’t know about her, shall we say, extra-curricular activities with the mayor and Red Tool.

If you thought this issue was only about Harley’s parents and cleaning, well you’re wrong. She also finds out her ex bf has been napped along with Madame Macabre. And, to make matters worse as soon as she makes some progress cleaning some crazy lady dressed as a member of the bat family comes bursting in accusing her of killing bats! That’s all I’ll divulge for this story arch. It’s going places and you’ll have to check it out for yourself.

Onto telling you about Harley Loves Joker Part 4. Seriously, if you like classic Harley Quinn and Batman the animated series you should be reading this. After their crime spree and running from Batman the Joker and Harley decide to rest in the lap of luxury. Ok, it’s really in a seedy hotel. During their R&R time they reflect on how they met. It’s nice to hear the Joker talk lovingly about Harley. He tells us a lot about his feelings for her even when she was still Dr. Harleen Quinzel.

This entire rebirth of Harley Quinn has been amazing. The story keeps going in great directions. Harley is very well developed. And, I’m in love with the Harley Loves Joker tales as well. Any Harley fan will appreciate this series. This issue was filled with a good balance of plot and action. I’m excited for where the stories are headed.
