Supergirl #10

Our heroes are trapped in the phantom zone after Supergirl tried her best to save Ben and Batgirl followed. Once inside the Phantom Zone Supergirl begins losing her powers and is basically human. There is no exit in sight without her abilities. And, it’s ridiculously hard to navigate because not much of the zone is solid. But, they haven’t given up hope.

Just as our heroes and Ben are nearly out of options a mysterious ship appears before them. They are invited onto the ship only to discover that it’s a trap. Regardless, it’s helpful to be on solid ground no matter what. Xa-Du captures them all and throws them into a literal prison that’s in the Phantom Zone. The trio starts planning their escape, but Supergirl reminds them she no longer has powers. Batgirl reminds her that she doesn’t need powers, just a plan.

The heroines then reflect on the decisions that left them trapped here. After confrontation from Batgirl telling Supergirl she should have had a plan, Supergirl agrees. They get past this issue and Ben reminds them he is just a High School student with no super suit that is willing to do whatever it takes to avoid being boiled alive. Yeah, Xa-Du planned this whole trap for Supergirl because her uncle imprisoned him for disgusting crimes. Similar to what I just mentioned. He wants to boil her and turn her into living armor. Another quirky thing about the Phantom Zone is you can’t die, but you can suffer.

As soon as the guards come to boil the trio they put their escape plan into action. Batgirl had a lock pick sewn into her cape and uses it to slip out of her cuffs. She then frees Ben and Supergirl. This is where you get to see the three of them be bad ass. As this happens Supergirl hears PSI call out to her psychically. As soon as they arrive to her aid Xa-Du appears in his armor (yea…the boiled people thing, ick) and has claws and eyes that are glowing. PSI reacts by turning into a dragon that is so massive it tears the prison apart at the seams.

With no plan Supergirl tells Batgirl sometimes you have to work on the fly. And, takes a leap at the dragon leaving Batgirl and Ben in shock. This issue was crazy guys. Lots of bad guy insanity, action, and reveals. It was also nice to see our heroines work together and make use of their different fighting styles. I trust Kara when she jumps into things, hopefully Batgirl does too.

Supergirl #10 Rating: 9/10
