Review: Supergirl #11

By: Sheena Fisher

Supergirl dove her way into a psychic dragon’s mouth last issue. Ben and Batgirl stared in horror. Batgirl is sure Supergirl has a plan. This leaves Ben and Batgirl to fend for themselves against angry prisoners of The Phantom Zone. But, as we saw in issue 10 we know the two can handle themselves. I think they stand a strong chance against Xa-Du and his baddies.

Xa-Du is attacking Batgirl and Ben in his Ecto-Armor. In case you forgot, he forged this by melting living people. As they say, you can’t die in The Phantom Zone, but you can feel pain. Luckily though his armor isn’t as strong as it once was. But, the armor is still strong enough to cause some major pain. As we all know Batgirl is great at dodging hits and thinking on the fly.

While Batgirl and Ben are fighting for their lives outside of the Dragon, Supergirl is fighting for everyone’s lives inside the dragon. She’s having a real heart-to-heart with Gayle AKA Psi. Psi reminds Supergirl that she is unable to stop her. And, Supergirl reminds Psi that she can read her thoughts to know her true intent. It’s interesting how both Supergirl and Batgirl are fighting separately yet together in these sequences.

Psi decides to stay and rebuild The Phantom Zone. Hopefully she will be a far better leader than Xa-Du and his medieval ways. With lots of fighting and determination the trio is successful. Batgirl makes her way back to Gotham. And, Supergirl goes to Catco because Cat has called her. Unfortunately there is something up with Cat. And, it doesn’t end well for Supergirl. This sets us up for the next issue.

Another action-packed issue with Kara and Babs working together to get out of The Phantom Zone. And, on the same physical level because Kara doesn’t have her powers. Ben is awesome too and a huge help to escaping as well. The story set-up for the next issue has me intrigued as to what changed while Supergirl was in The Phantom Zone. I wonder, just how long she was really there. 8/10 stars.
