New Thor: Ragnarok Trailer Shows The Grand Scale of The Fight For Asgard

Just a short time ago, Marvel released a new trailer for Thor:Ragnarok, the third entry of Thor’s story in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. There were some mixed emotions about Thor: The Dark World, but it looks like Marvel is taking the lightheartedness of the Guardians movies and fusing it with the action of previous Thor movies.

The new trailer opens up with Thor (Chris Hemsworth) recanting the events leading up to the gladiator battle, presumably to Hulk right before they fight. Mjolnir gets destroyed by Hela, the sgardian goddess of death (Cate Blanchett). Thor is then cast out of Asgard and finds himself on the planet of Sakaar where The Grandmaster (Jeff Goldblum) rules. Hulk’s inclusion is a little nod to the Planet Hulk story line where he enjoys being gladiator and eventually becomes king. That story line is implemented where it fits with the Thor story line.

Thor:Ragnarok is going to have some comedic elements to it as Thor and Bruce Banner/Hulk are going to have more of a buddy cop relationship. We get our first look at Valkyrie (Tessa Thompson), an asgardian warrior who is in many ways, the equal to Thor. We also see our returning champion, Loki (Tom Hiddleston) whose rule on Asgard has not gone the way he intended to say the least. All four characters have to team up to save Asgard and fight off Ragnarok, the end of all things.

Director Taika Waititi brings a very colorful palette into the Thor universe. There’s a beautiful, slow-motion shot of Hela preparing to fight an advancing army. Keep in mind that Hela can manifest weapons, with even her headdress becoming a weapon as well. Marvel has a formidable villain as he head into Avengers: Infinity War.

Other notable shots are ones involving Hulk: both fighting Fenris Wolf and Surtur The Fire Demon. There isn’t a shortage of obstacles for our heroes to tackle. Also, Hulk talking? Great last shot in what looks like to be a fun movie coming from Marvel as we head into the next phase of movies.
