Twin Peaks Episode 13 Has All Your Favorite Characters, But Where Did it Take Us?

Twin Peaks Episode 13 Plot Summary:

Tony (Tom Sizemore) is ordered to kill Dougie Jones (Kyle McLachlan). The Cooperganger (Kyle McLachlan) finds his old pal Ray (George Griffith) and gets some vital information. Meanwhile, in Twin Peaks the locals are back to their original series antics.

The return of Twin Peaks has evoked a lot of questions for me.

The obvious two are “What does any of this mean, and where is David Lynch taking us?” The next is, “When are all the characters from the original series, that we know are returning, actually going to get decent screen time?”

The answer to that question has come in the last two weeks.

We finally got to see our beloved Audrey Horne (Sherilyn Fenn), and Big Ed Hurley (Everett McGill). We got an extended spotlight on Shelly (Madchen Amick), Nadine (Wendy Robie), Norma (Peggy Lipton), Bobby Briggs (Dana Ashbrook), and even our old pal James (James Marshall) got to sing his signature song.

And it’s been great.

The vibe on the show has slowly transformed from complete uneasy confusion to that wonderfully weird and warm vibe with an underlying air of horror and paranoia beneath it, just like the original series.

However, even with all this good, there is one problem.

The plot has been barely advanced.

Dougie avoided being killed by The Mitchums. Dougie avoided being killed by Tony. This will eventually lead to Tony turning on Mr. Todd, which will eventually lead to The Cooperganger. But, let’s face it, that’s going to take a while.

It’s also been a number of episodes since we heard Bobby, Hawk, and Truman (Robert Forster) were going into the woods to find what Major Briggs left behind there.

The Cooperganger killed Ray, and found out Phillip Jeffries (originally played by David Bowie) tried to convince Ray to kill the Cooperganger. Great, that’s a new wrinkle, and the ‘Ganger has coordinates. Is that taking him to Twin Peaks, or no?

With only a handful of episodes left one has to wonder where this all will go. David Lynch is a master storyteller, so I trust this will all work out in the end. However, as we see the finish line it feels like we are still light years from making sense of it all.

But then again, maybe that’s the point.
