Casting Stephen King’s IT Part 2

If you have ever read the Stephen King novel “It” or even seen the TV movie, you know that the story is broken into two parts; The first part being when the Losers’ Club meets and defeats Pennywise and the second part is 27 years later, when the now adult members reassemble to kill Pennywise once and for all. As this new film just shows the children and their war against the clown, we thought it would be fun to cast the adults for the second film.

Bill Denbrough

Currently Portrayed by Jaden Lieberher

Tommy Tracy’s Pick:

Aaron Eckhart

Best Known For: Two-Face in The Dark Knight.

Eckhart shines when he needs to be dramatic. I’ve seen the man do many genres and feel a real deep dive into horror will do great for both him and the film, especially as the leading man.

Ann Hale’s Pick:

Logan Marshall Green

Best Known For: Charlie Holloway in Prometheus. He also recently starred in Cinemax’s drama Quarry.

Logan Marshall Green has proven himself to be both dramatic and able to play the role of leader. Bill needs to be both of these things in order to lead the Losers’ Club to victory.

Beverly Marsh

Currently Portrayed by Sophia Lillis

Tommy Tracy’s Pick:

Jessica Chastain

Best Known For: Her two Oscar nominated performances in The Help (Best Supporting Actress), and Zero Dark Thirty (Best Actress).

-Is there anyone else? Even Sophia Lillis, who plays the young Bev, picked Chastain and it’s not hard to see why.

Ann Hale’s Pick:

Deborah Ann Woll

Best Known For: Her role as Jessica Hamby in HBO’s True Blood, and Karen Page in The Defenders, Daredevil, and The Punisher.

Not only does Deborah look like an older version of Beverly, Deborah is already well familiar with acting in a world of the supernatural.

Richie Tozier

Currently Portrayed by Finn Wolfhard

Tommy Tracy’s Pick:

Bill Hader

Best Known For: His various roles including Stefan on Saturday Night Live.

-The fan in me wanted to say Seth Green, but in his mid-40’s, I do not want to see Green dye his hair black. Hader is the right age and has the acting chops (both serious and comedic) to do my favorite role in the book justice.

Ann Hale’s Pick:

Tom Welling

Best Known For: His role as Superman/Clark Kent in The WB/CW’s series Smallville.

-While my choice of Welling was mostly for appearance, he has acted in both serious and comedic films. It’s possible that he could surprise us all and have great comedic timing.

Ben Hanscom

Currently Portrayed by Jeremy Ray Taylor

Tommy Tracy’s Pick:

Joseph Gordon-Levitt

Best Known For: His roles in Inception, Looper, 500 Days of Summer, and so much more.

-This one was the hardest to cast. I wanted someone good-looking, who could play the confidence of a man who lost weight and knows he did. JGL is the perfect choice because he can show the insecurities it takes to play Ben.

Ann Hale’s Pick:

Chris Pratt

Beat Known For: His breakout role as Star-Lord in Guardians of the Galaxy and as Andy on NBC’s cult sitcom Parks & Recreation.

-Pratt literally the overweight kid who became a heartthrob. He has the ability to play both cocky and gentile, aka the perfect Ben.

Eddie Kaspbrak

Currently Portrayed by Jack Dylan Grazer

Tommy Tracy’s Pick:

Elijah Wood

Best Known For: His role as Frodo Baggins in the epic Lord of the Rings Trilogy. Currently starring in Dirk Gently on BBC America

-I wanted someone small and…well, kind of sickly, to play Eddie. Elijah is a bit younger than the rest of the cast but he is actually who I picture taking over the role fairly easily.

Ann Hale’s Pick:

Ben Barnes

Best Known For: Prince Caspian in the Chronicles of Narnia films, as well as Logan in West World.

-While Ben is 6’1″, he is shorter than Pratt and Welling. I feel they could easily downplay his height and make him sickly looking enough to play Eddie.

Mike Hanlon

Currently Portrayed by Chosen Jacobs

Tommy Tracy’s Pick :

Chiwetel Ejiofor

Best Known For: His starring role as Solomon Northup in the Oscar-winning 12 Years a Slave as well as the recent blockbuster Doctor Strange.

-Fantastic actor, fantastic role and it would give him a chance to jump into the horror genre.

Ann Hale’s Pick:

Derek Luke

Best Known For: TV guest starring roles on The Americans and 13 Reasons Why, also Captain America: The First Avenger.

-Luke has the chops it takes to play a role like Mike. He is cool and calm and is the perfect person to play the brave and loyal character needed.

Stanley Uris

Currently Portrayed by Wyatt Oleff

Tommy Tracy’s Pick:

Simon Helberg

Best Known For: His role on Wolowitz on CBS’ The Big Bang Theory.

-I DO NOT like The Big Bang Theory but I’ll admit that Helberg’s character is the only “comedic” role in that show. I haven’t seen too much of him outside of that show but I feel, with a small part such as Stanley’s, he could work. Plus, you’ll want a “lesser known” actor for this role.

Ann Hale’s Pick:

Johnny Galecki

Best Known For: The role of Leonard Hoftstader in CBS’ The Big Bang Theory.

-Galecki is the perfect person to play the neurotic Stanley. While he may not be in the film for very long, I strongly believe he will be able to pull off the dramatic scene in his brief appearance.

IT will be haunting theaters near you on September 8. IT Part 2’s release date is to be determined.
