Review: Bettie Page #4

In Issue #3 we saw that Bettie made a new friend. Her friend was a cop named Lyssa. The two were investigating all kinds of crazy things and seemed to bond really fast. Something about Bettie just seemed to make Lyssa trust her instantly. Spoiler warning from the last issue, I have to reveal the crazy conclusion of Issue 3 to tell you what happens in Issue 4.

Unfortunately for the ladies they were captured by Elroy Benway and his creepy cultist looking goons. And, that’s where this issue picks up. Bettie is great at flying by the seat of her panties, and greets Elroy like a person would a friend. She starts praising him for his book and his amazing ray gun from Issue 2. Lyssa looks horrified at first, but soon realizes what Bettie’s angle is and just silently plays along.

The cultist goons let up on Bettie and Lyssa, and that’s when Benway uncovers why he’s been setting everything up. Of course our villain has to reveal every little detail to Bettie because she’s so good at convincing him that she’s on his side and not only that, but a fan. I don’t want to fully reveal his evil plot, but I will have to tell you a mild spoiler from this issue: Helena is alive.

Yes, Chaplain’s missing girlfriend from issue #1, and not only that but so are all of Bettie’s friends. At the end of Issue 3 Rick’s house was blown up in front of Bettie and Lyssa. They thought everyone was dead, but in truth Benway actually captured them, put him in his basement, and turned on his weird mind control ray gun. Elroy is having such a fun time bragging to Bettie about this that he takes her down there to show off.

Bettie plays along for a little while, but notices that the ray gun is plugged into the wall. While Elroy is talking about how great he is and how dumb he thinks everyone else is, Bettie takes a flying leap to unplug the ray gun. As she does that Lyssa springs into action and starts fighting the goons. Elroy takes off running, and of course Bettie chases after him.

This issue headed in a way I didn’t expect. When the girls got captured at the end of Issue 3 I really didn’t know what to think. But, I could see Bettie being the type to use her charisma to outwit a person. I was pretty happy when they chose that angle for Bettie. And, I really like Lyssa as a character and I’m glad she’s still fighting along Bettie. You’ll have to pick up this issue to see how the story ends and to learn what Elroy’s full evil plot is.

Bettie Page #4 Rating: 7/10
