Victor Crowley: A Hilarious Addition to the Hatchet Franchise

Victor Crowley Plot Summary:

In 2007, over forty people were brutally torn to pieces in Louisiana’s Honey Island Swamp. Over the past decade, lone survivor Andrew Yong’s claims that local legend Victor Crowley was responsible for the horrific massacre have been met with great controversy, but when a twist of fate puts him back at the scene of the tragedy, Crowley is mistakenly resurrected and Yong must face the bloodthirsty ghost from his past.

Ten years after Marybeth Dunston (Danielle Harris) broke the curse keeping Victor Crowley (Kane Hodder) alive, three friends head to the swamp to film a mock trailer for a Victor Crowley movie they want to produce. In an attempt to keep things as true to the story as possible, they decide to recite the original curse with a little help from a YouTube video. Unbeknownst to them, reciting the curse brings Victor back in all his bloody glory.

Meanwhile, the sole survivor of the original massacre, EMT Andrew Yong (Perry Shen), is in the area for a book signing. He has become somewhat of a celebrity, having been acquitted of the charge of murder for the deaths in Honey Island Swamp. A fateful plane accident lands Andrew back in the swamp to face Victor Crowley once again.

Victor Crowley is a hilarious addition to the Hatchet franchise. Director Adam Green finally adds Holliston alum Laura Ortiz to the fold, along with scream queens Felissa Rose (Sleepaway Camp) and Tiffany Shepis (Night of the Demons). Dave Sheridan, who you might remember as Doofy from Scary Movie, is also in the mix as the seemingly stupid, but surprisingly heroic, tour guide/actor wannabe Dillon.

Most of the film takes place on the crashed plane, where the survivors hunker down to keep out of reach of Victor Crowley. Those who attempt to escape face violent, but amazing deaths at the hands of our antagonist, including one of my favorite kills from the entire series involving a cellphone grasping severed arm being forcibly shoved into a vagina. I will admit that I may have watched that kill on repeat a few times and hysterically laughed before going on to finish the rest of the film.

While not the best of the four films, Victor Crowley is a great sequel and addition to the Hatchet series. It is certainly worth the buy and definitely worth a watch. Be sure to watch the credits for a surprise cameo.

Victor Crowley is now available on Blu-ray and digital from Dark Sky Films
