Elektra is one of the most famous characters in the Daredevil universe making her casting in season two of Marvel’s Daredevil highly anticipated. The fan favorite character though referenced, was never seen in the first season of Daredevil. But earlier today, Marvel officially announced Elodie Yung as the “mysterious woman from Matt Murdock’s past whose dangerous and exotic ways may be more than he can handle.”
Jeph Loeb, head of Marvel Television, further explained their choice saying “we found in Élodie the perfect actress to embody both Elektra’s impressive and deadly physicality, as well as her psychological complexity, paired with Charlie as Matt Murdock, the two will bring one of the most beloved and tumultuous comic book relationships to life with all the accompanying sparks and spectacular action sequences the show is known for.”
1981’s Daredevil #168, created by Frank Miller, was the first time Elektra appeared in the comic series. The character was lauded as a deadly assassin but also as a hero. She was then branched out from the Daredevil series to become the main protagonist of her own stories, including the acclaimed Elektra: Assassin miniseries and the Elektra Lives Again graphic novel.
Yung has appeared in GI Joe: Retaliation as the martial arts-centric character, Jinx. She has also appeared in District 13: Ultimatum and The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo.
