Friday the 13th: A New Beginning is the Halloween 3 of the Friday the 13th series and is most often considered the worst of them all. Just as I do not understand all of the hate for Halloween 3, because it is ridiculously awesome, I don’t really understand why everyone bashes on A New Beginning so much when Jason X is so awful.

Besides the original and Part 2, A New Beginning is the only other film in the series where the revenge makes sense. In Friday the 13th, Mrs. Voorhees takes revenge for the negligent drowning death of her son, Jason, by killing all of the counselors at Camp Crystal Lake. In Part 2, Jason takes revenge for the murder of his mother. Now, in Part 5, revenge is taken for the murder of Joey, the obnoxious, candy bar shoveling patient that could easily get on anyone’s last nerve.

Sure, there is no Jason. Yes, there is someone in a hockey mask killing people but it is most certainly not the Crystal Lake killer we have all grown to love. The deaths are pretty cool and the story is still based around Friday the 13th themes so what does it matter if it isn’t really Jason?

The film gets criticized for the acting. I would have to toss this one aside considering that the acting in pretty much all of them is atrocious. Who watches slasher movies for the acting anyway? All you really need is elaborate deaths and buckets of blood, and this movie provides us with both.

Friday the 13th: A New Beginning is the most overlooked and underappreciated film of the series. I say pop it in and judge for yourselves! Maybe you will see the fun in it that I do.
