The Top 10 Worst Things About The Matrix Sequels

8. The Explanation Of A Different Actress Playing The Oracle

So Gloria Foster played the Oracle in the first two films, but sadly passed away before she could finish her work on the third, so in came Mary Alice. Proof that the Wachowskis are one-hit wonders, and at times even lazy screenwriters, is their explanation for why the Oracle looks different. “I made a choice.” She made a choice. That’s the reason? Are you kidding me with this? If it were me, I wouldn’t even mention it. Characters get re-cast all the time. You didn’t even need to make reference to it, but that’s what you came up with?  Awful.

7. The Final Smith/Neo Fight

I already talked about the multi-Smith fight, but this is worse. It’s one of the biggest sequel no/no’s there is – the idea you have to take what worked well in the first film, and bloat it up. In the first movie, Neo and Smith have one of the greatest movie fights of all time, and it’s as if the directors said, “Let’s do that fight again, but multiply it by 900.” It’s terrible. It’s over the top. The dialogue is ridiculous. The score is out of control. What’s kind of sad though is all the effort and money that probably went into creating this fight, yet I haven’t met anyone who actually likes it. It’s one of the biggest train wrecks I’ve ever seen in a big budget film. Maybe if the story actually meant something, and there was actual character development, I could appreciate it more, but it sucks the big one. What’s interesting is that ten years later we see this fight done right – it’s called Superman Vs. General Zod in Man of Steel.
