Star Wars Dead Pool: Our Character Death Predictions

PRINCESS LEIA

Daniel Cohen: Even though she’s been more present in the marketing than Luke Skywalker, her role seems harder to decipher at this point.  The consensus seems to be that Luke is a powerful Jedi off in isolation, and they have to find him.  While Leia seems like the leader of the new rebellion, it’s hard to figure out where she is in the force.  All we really know is that she’s the Mon Mothma of the Galaxy right now.

This makes Leia my easiest prediction out of all the original characters.  The good side is still going to need some type of leader after this movie, and with the new cast mostly being of younger age, she’ll still be that person.  There’s definitely more story out there for Leia, so I can’t imagine Carrie Fisher being one and done.

Prediction: Lives

Luke Kalamar: Formerly-Princess-but-now-General Leia is one of Star Wars best characters. She’s confident, self-assured, perfectly willing to get her hands dirty, and is one of the few people left in the galaxy with a deep connection to The Force. She’s someone anyone can look up to, especially women. It’s tough to find someone better to be a symbol of female empowerment in science fiction. This is honestly why she won’t die. Sure, Rey could reach the same status in due time, but Leia has been there for years, and taking her out leaves a huge void. I can already picture the many think pieces about why killing Leia was the worst move Star Wars ever made. I’m sure JJ Abrams knows this too, and probably slapped anyone who even considered the idea.

Prediction: Lives

Aaron Sarnecky: Princess Leia is one of those characters that I’ve grown to like a lot more as I’ve gotten older, as I began to appreciate how strong and capable she is. In fact, if Luke didn’t get gradually cooler I’d say I like her even more than her brother. Leia did eventually become a Jedi in the Expanded Universe, but that’s no longer official history.

It’s unclear if she will use the Force in any way in The Force Awakens. But either way, it looks like she plays an important role as a strategist in the new film, though unless she picks up a lightsaber and fights Kylo Ren, I think she’s relatively safe. She’s far too valuable to the good guys to risk her life like that. Or so it seems.

Prediction: Lives
