After Ring of Honor Final Battle I decided to watch NXT Deadline. Now, I have not watched NXT in about five months, so my expectations are rather low. So, with that being said let’s review NXT Deadline.
Women’s Iron Survivor Challenge: Roxanne Perez vs Zoey Starks vs Cora Jade vs Indi Hartwell vs Kiana James: Even after watching two of these matches these stipulation do not make any sense, but I am not the one booking NXT. If you take the stipulation out of the equation this match was amazing. All five of these competitors are really talented and they truly showed why they are the future of WWE. Love that Roxanne won as she will be the next generational talent I can assure you of that. Also Booker T crying over watching his student win this was absolutely adorable. THIS IS WHY I LOVE WRESTLING!
Winner: Roxanne Perez
Alba Fyre vs Isla Dawn: So, we can now poison referees, cool. This match was fun and you can tell that these two definitely have chemistry. That ending was a bit rough but it’s understandable they did it for character development purposes, but never again.
Winner: Isla Dawn
NXT Tag Team Championship: Pretty Deadly (Kit Wilson and Elton Prince) vs The New Day (Kofi Kingston and Xavier Woods): The quadruple Eddie Guerrero fake out title spot was absolutely brilliant. This was the match that I was most excited for and man did these four deliver. Not the biggest fan of Pretty Deadly, but they were able to hang with one of the best tag teams of the 21st century and I give them props for that. It’s pretty shocking that New Day won the titles, but since there is not really anything for them to do on the main roster I guess this makes sense. Cannot wait to see the feuds they get into down in NXT because at the end of the day they do have some talented tag teams.
Winners: “And New” The New Day
Men’s Iron Survivor Challenge: Axiom vs Carmelo Hayes vs Grayson Waller vs JD McDonagh vs Joe Gacy: I thought that this match was a lot smoother than the Women’s Iron Survivor match. This match kept you on your toes a lot more especially with that four way tie at 2 falls a piece for Axiom, Joe Gacy, Carmelo Hayes and Grayson Waller with 5 minutes left. All five of these men showed why they are the future of NXT and again, without the stipulation this match would have been a little bit better. There was a lot more happening within the stipulation with the men’s match, it made this match more interesting because you truly did not know what was gonna happen, whereas with the women’s match you could have easily predicted the winner. Grayson Waller was definitely a choice for the winner of this match, not a good choice but a choice Overall, solid match but please Shawn Michaels do not do this stipulation again.
Winner: Grayson Waller
NXT Championship Match: Bron Breakker vs Apollo Crews: When Apollo Crews first came back to NXT I was really excited to see what he was going to do, but more importantly was excited to see this match with him and Breakker, and man did they kill it. This was a great back and forth between both men, but the question still remains on who defeats Breakker. Now with Grayson Waller winning the Iron Survivor Challenge and since he did attack Breakker after the match, is Waller the one to dethrone the champ. Personally hope not because it should be Carmelo Hayes, but once again I am not booking NXT. Good match, right winner, and hopefully they can find something else for Crews to do in NXT.
Winner: Bron Breakker
I overall thought this show was really fun, especially after the hard hitting afternoon we had with Final Battle. I think the last couple months NXT has gone back to their original routes now that they are not called NXT 2.0 anymore Thank God. If you take anything anyway from today it is that;
- There is a lot of good wrestling going on right now so please enjoy all of it no matter what brand you like.
- Shawn Michaels never do an Iron Survivor Challenge Match again.
