In Issue #1, we saw Bettie take on a new change in life. She moved from NY to California and took up a day job as a secretary. She was also auditioning for acting gigs in Hollywood. Oh, and let’s not forget that she was also being abducted by a weird cult. Why? Because she investigated the disappearance of a young woman they also abducted.
But, thankfully Rick got her message and was able to save the day. Now Bettie is on a movie set dressed up as a Space Queen. She’s being faced by armed forces and gets a little too into the scene breaking some props. Luckily for her everyone seems to love her on set. Bettie also is lucky enough to get a ride home in style with some help from Rick and his nice new car. The duo still have Bettie’s abduction fresh in their minds and are connecting the dots everywhere.
During their drive home, Rick shows Bettie a notebook he’s grabbed from Elroy Benway. Those cloaked weirdo’s tied Bettie to a Benway Wave Modulator. Coincidence? They think not. There’s also a big revelation about Benway that you’ll have to read the comic to learn. But, the duo decide to catch Elroy as he’s exiting the theater they’re watching like hawks. Bettie writes down which vehicle Elroy gets in and the license plate number as well.
Unfortunately for Bettie and Rick someone must have spotted them gathering information. On their drive away from the theater they reach a bridge where they’re greeted by some gun fire. It’s insane, really. So insane they both had to laugh when neither one of them got hurt. Rick’s car took most of the damage. But, that’s not the weirdest part.
The weird part comes when Bettie goes back on set to film the next day. There’s a huge prop that turns out to be an actual ray gun of sorts. They even brought in a scientist that knows how to operate the thing. Just as the director is about to spill the beans on who wrote the film the ray goes off. It’s not pretty guys. There’s some real crazy stuff going on. It’s definitely connected.
This issue was a fun read, but I love learning anything new about Bettie Page and her personal life. I think any fan of hers knew she was a great person. But, this comic so far shows just how strong and heroic she was too. This woman was abducted, shot at, and even more crazy things happen this issue. She kept pursuing the truth at all costs. The story is going places and the action is nuts.
