11 Albums You Might Have Missed This Summer

Marty Friedman – Inferno

INFERNO_FRONT_FIX

Amidst the massive amount of pop music, rap music, and some weird shit that kids are calling “metal” these days, you probably missed an album called Inferno, which was written, nay, bestowed upon us by one of the Gods of speed metal, Marty Friedman. Having played in bands like Cacophony with Jason Becker, and Megadeth with Dave Mustaine, the man knows just a little bit about how to play fast and heavy. And it shows, because those two words perfectly describe this album.

This album is chock full of special guests, from acoustic instrumental duo Rodrigo y Gabriella, to the solid vocal styling’s of Danko Jones. And that is what makes this album great; it’s not just the incredible speed or technicality, it’s that Freidman refuses to be pigeonholed into the speed shred style by having these other musicians on his album. He seamlessly blends western and eastern styles of music, and tracks that feature other musicians sound like one song, not just two people playing as fast as they can. If you like heavy music, and great instrumental guitar playing, then you definitely should pick this up. -Lucas P. Jones
