4. Dumb and Dumber To

Dumb & Dumber is one of my favorite comedies of all time. I originally had this at #3 on my Most Anticipated Movies of the year list. But then I saw the trailer, and remembered that the Farrelly Brothers were directing it. Ugh. Jim Carrey and Jeff Daniels look like they are trying their absolute best to make this funny. This looks like nothing but recycled jokes from the original, but done badly. What really pisses me off though is all the shock humor in the trailer. Certainly the original Dumb & Dumber had plenty of that, but the real gut laughs came from the simple interplay between the two characters, and that looks completely lost in this trailer. Instead we get old people sex jokes. Also, the characters were certainly morons in the original, but they were realistic morons. Watch the scene towards the end of the trailer where Harry and Lloyd talk on the phone. I’m sorry, but that’s pushing the dumbness too far. The original was charming because it was just dumb enough. This gets in my top five solely because of the original, but at this point I’m preparing myself for a massive disappointment.
