This is my Her pick of the year. Her was completely off the radar, but as it got closer to release, buzz slowly started to build around it. I’m sure you haven’t even heard of this movie. It’s about a successful narcissistic novelist who isolates himself from all the hoopla surrounding the release of his second book, as well as all his fractured relationships. Now this is how you cut a trailer. I’ve been a massive Jason Schwartzman fan ever since he came onto the scene with Rushmore in 1998, playing one of my favorite movie characters of all time, Max Fischer. When you watch this trailer, it looks like a cross between a Woody Allen and Wes Anderson film. Whereas I have a bad feeling about Gone Girl, I’ve got a great feeling about this one. This is my dark horse pick of the year.
Oscar Alert! It’s hard to tell right now, but screenplay and Jason Schwartzman are the ones to keep an eye on.
