Los Straitjackets to Rock The Saint in Asbury Park

The iconic, cult instrumental band Los Straitjackets will be coming to Asbury Park at the end of this month.

The band, noted for their love of lucha masks and instrumental jams, will be headlining The Saint on Main Street in Asbury. Longtime friends of the site, Tara Elliott & The Red Velvets will be opening up.

We’ll be giving away tickets next week, so stay tuned!

For more on Los Straitjackets, here’s a little official write-up:

No one equals the finesse and power of Los Straitjackets when it comes to delivering high-energy rock and roll instrumental music. Since first donning their trademark Lucha Libre masks before a record store appearance in 1994, the band has recorded 11 albums, played around the world, and never failed to inspire an audience to smile while rocking out. Mixing the familiar sounds of Dick Dale, Duane Eddy, and the Ventures, Los Straitjackets create their own version of energetic surf guitar twang, complete with Mexican wrestling masks. Los Straitjackets renewed their occasional commitment to “instrumental music with vocals” on the 2014 release Sings The Great Instrumental Hits, with Deke Dickerson (fittingly a man more celebrated as a guitarist than a singer) warbling little-heard lyrics to popular instrumental tunes, including “Pipeline,” “Walk Don’t Run,” and “Honky Tonk.”
