The Roots Picnic 2016 Line-Up Announced

Written By: Laura Curry

2016’s lineup for the Roots Picnic was announced earlier this week in the form of a Youtube video starring Ilana Glazer and Abbi Jacobson, the co-creators of the Web series, Broad City. These quirky comedians draw their game plan for the festival on a map of the venue and reveal the lineup along the way.

This year’s June 4 celebration will feature the headliners Usher (backed by The Roots), Future, and Leon Bridges. Other artists include Blood Orange, Kehlani, Kaytranada, Anderson Paak & The Free Nationals, Ibeyi, DMX, Metro Boomin, Migos, Lil Dicky, and Willow Smith.

The ninth annual Roots Picnic will take place in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, which is the hometown of The Roots band. The event is situated at Penn’s Landing on the Delaware River Waterfront at Festival Pier, which is an outdoor venue complete with a sandy beach, food trucks and a beer garden. The view of the Ben Franklin Bridge nearby will act as a tribute to the origin of The Roots.

General tickets for the Roots Picnic will be available this Friday, Feb. 5 at noon on Ticketmaster. There are also some presale options to consider.

Laura Curry is a Rutgers University graduate with a Bachelor’s Degree in Journalism and Media Studies. Interviewing bands and writing about music is her passion. She is a frequent concert-goer, whether they’re happening in New Brunswick basements, Asbury Park venues, concert halls in NYC and anywhere in between. Alternative rock is her go-to genre (i.e. Kings of Leon, Cage the Elephant, Foals, The Maine and lots more). When she isn’t writing for The Pop Break, she works at the North Brunswick Public Library, which offers plenty of Fantasy/Adventure novels to quench her love of reading. Additionally, she takes on creative projects from dream catchers and scrapbooks to paintings and jewelry making. She’s always happy to talk about her furry Maine Coon cat Austen and his knack for playing fetch and hide and seek. Just try not to ask about her next career move, because trust me, she’s working on it.
