John Boyega Joins the Cast of Pacific Rim 2

Pacific Rim 2: Maelstrom inked one of the hottest stars in Hollywood to pilot a Jaeger.

The film is the follow-up to the 2013 sci-fi action film about a battle between giant human piloted mech warriors called Jagers, and invading alien monsters known as Kaiju.

The new film will be directed by Steve S. DeKnight, who has helmed various television episodes for series such as Daredevil, Smallville, and Dollhouse. He is mostly known for his writing and producing roles in series like Spartacus: War of the Damned, Spartacus: Gods of the Arena, and Angel.

He takes over for Guillermo del Toro, who both wrote and directed the original film. The film was not the runaway success it was predicted to be, but international box office helped fuel a sequel.

Bogey’s role will be the son of Idris Elba’s Stacker Pentecost. It is not confirmed whether Charlie Hunnam will return as Raleigh Beckett, the hero of the first film. The only cast member that seems to be confirmed at the moment is Max Martini, who’ll reprise his role as pilot Herc Hansen.

The film is currently in pre-production with no set release date determined.
