This is not a joke.

This is not a rumor.

You are not on acid.

According to a story posted by ComicBookMovie.com, Emmy Award-winning actor Bryan Cranston has signed on to play Zordon in Lionsgate’s Power Rangers film. The film is due for release in 2017.

Cranston announced the casting news on his Twitter account earlier today.

This is a “return” of sorts for Cranston. According to his IMDb page, Cranston did voice work (uncredited) in the 1993 episodes “A Bad Reflection on You” (he voiced Twinman), and “Foul Play in the Sky” (he voiced Snizard)

For those unfamiliar with the role, Zordon is the holographic “boss”/”mentor” of the Mighty Morphin’ Power Rangers. He was trapped in a time warp by the series villain Rita Repulsa. Repulse will be played by Elizabeth Banks. The other “name” actor cast in the film so far is David Denham — aka Roy from The Office.

The Power Rangers will be played by: Naomi Scott (Pink Ranger), Becky G. (Yellow Ranger), Ludi Lin (Black Ranger), Dacre Montgomery (Red Ranger), RJ Cyler (Blue Ranger). The film will be directed by by Dean Israelite, who last helmed Project Almanac.

The Mighty Morphin’ Power Rangers first hit the the United States on FOX in 1993. It was an adaptation of the Japanese live action series Super Sentai. The series hit the big screen in 1995. It has since been spun off into countless live action series.
