logan j. fowler and bill bodkin look at the much-anticipated action flick …
Theater, Rent, No Thanks, Undecided? Rent (but possibly Theater).
Drive looks like a really cool film, not too heavy on action, but relying more on an equal balance between spectacle and substance. After wowing me with his performance in Half Nelson, Ryan Gosling has been demonstrating that is actor with variety, demonstrating he can do romantic drama (The Notebook), comedy (Crazy Stupid Love), and now this, in which he seems to play a lower key action star. The film also includes the gorgeous Christina Hendricks (who made me fall in love with her all the way back in Firefly), Ron Perlman, and Albert Brooks. Casting aside, Drive looks like a fun and furious flick that I may actually plunk down the dollars to kick start what looks to be a spectacular autumn season at the cinema. However, if I can’t make it let that be so, I’ll definitely catch it when it gets released on DVD.

There’s been a lot of hype surrounding Drive, but one thing scares me … the director’s previous work. Director Nicholas Winding Refn took home the Best Director award from Cannes for this film, but one of his earlier films was the film Valhalla Rising, which I absolutely and utterly hated. Knowing he’s involved in the film gives me some trepidation. However, Valhalla Rising didn’t have a cast that could boast Ryan Gosling, Ron Perlman, Bryan Cranston and Carey Mulligan. And it also did not have Christina Hendricks, who let’s face it, is amazingly beautiful. Outside of my slight worries, Drive‘s trailer has hooked us all — supercool action film meets arthouse caper/noir. Sign me up.

Bill… Nicholas Winding Refn is the creator of probably the best european crime triology ever made:
The Pusher triology: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=X6m9B-xk3sk
if you had seen just one of the films from his triology.. you would already be in a tent infront of your theater..
