bill bodkin and logan j. fowler release the kraken…
Theater, Rent, No Thanks, Undecided? No Thanks. Look, I’m all for a sword and sandals style epic. And to its credit, Wrath of the Titans looks like it could be some sort of blast for a good number of people. However, I never saw its predecessor, Clash of the Titans, and for that matter, it never really interested me. With that said, Wrath might carry the same vibe of epic-ness that the former Titans film had, and might even be a great popcorn movie. But honestly, this film doesn’t appeal to me, the series doesn’t overall, and with that said, think I’m gonna just pass this one up to a no. –LJF

Theater, Rent, No Thanks, Undecided? DVD. Unlike my colleague, I did see 2010’s Clash of Titans. I was so stoked to see it — I have an undying love for sword and sandal epics, of mythological heroes battling over-the-top beasts from the depths of Hades. Feed me a constant diet of these movies on pita bread and cover it with lamb and I’d be happy for the rest of my life. However, once the credits rolled on Clash, I was let down — it was decent, breezily enjoyable but the great big action sequences lacked suspense, heart, drama. Yes, it made quite a killing at the box office — but has anyone really been clamoring for a sequel? Has there been such a groundswell of support on blogs, message boards and fan sites for a follow-up of Perseus and company? I didn’t think so. So we get another financially motivated sequel where the noise has been ratcheted up, the premise is a lot sillier and there’s a whole lot of explosions. This’ll make for another ‘check your brain at the door’ pre-summer popcorn flick that’ll be good for a DVD rental for me. –BB
